Over-the-counter approval pending for a nasal spray to be used by kids to revive parents who overdose

A nasal spray was approved yesterday that revives people who overdose on drugs. The next step is to fast-track the medicine so people can buy it over-the-counter without a prescription.

The announcements were made by Dr. Scott Gottlieb. He heads the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Commissioner is pictured above.

Before the nasal spray was approved, the medicine was only approved as a shot. Compared to an injection, a nasal spray is easier for little children to use to help revive their parents and others who overdose.

The use of the nasal spray as a non-prescription, over-the-counter item, "is being fast-tracked" by the FDA, according to its Commissioner, Dr. Gottlieb.
